Welcome to my free mystery block of the month.
This was first designed for my lovely student Iris Primrose's 70th birthday, which her sewing group made for her. She exhibited at our local show and the response was so good I knew I needed to share it . So here we are.....
Step one : The fabric I use is linen or linen/cotton mix , Calico and Osnaburg, as these are all are lovely to sew with.
Step two: Transfer the design onto your fabric, I always choose a fabric I can see through so I can trace it with a pencil, but if your fabric is not see through, try a light box. If that's no good I love to use an iron on transfer pencil. sharpen the pencil to get a fine point and then trace over the paper design, place the paper face down onto the fabric and iron it in place. It is permanent so be careful, it will not wash out.
Step three: Once the design has been transferred, place the iron on interfacing to the wrong side to stabilise the fabric and to hide any threads showing from the front.
Step four: I am in love with DMC coton a broder, it has only one strand, I also use a chenille needle number 24 to embroider with, it's short sharp with a large eye.
Step five: Finally the stitch, I use a small black stitch for most of the design with the occasional French knot.
The block will be cut to size at a later date.
Next months design will be posted on the web second week of March.
Don't forget if you need supplies I have it all on my website www.dandeliondesigns.co.uk
